Mary Catherine Claybourn
Oldest Child of William Divine Claybourn
17 August 1839 - 13 February 1910

"Aunt Kit" with her second husband, Sam Starnes.
"Aunt Kit" lived most of her life near Divide, Illinois, east of the town of Texico. It is believed she was born in Tennessee because her parents did not come to Jefferson County, Illinois, until after her birth. She married Joe Boggs in 1857, but he was killed during the Civil War. After the war she married Sam Starnes, the brother of her step-mother Elizabeth Starnes Maxey. Sam was a prosperous farmer who had good painted buildings, a spacious yard with grass and trees, and orchards. Aunt Kit died of cancer. Many of her descendants lived around Centralia and Salem, Illinois.
